Quoting Hunter S. Thompson
Ich hab den Mann ja einmal schon mit einem Beitrag bedacht. Bei meinem letzten Großeinkauf in der Buchhandlung hab ich "Kingdom of Fear - Loathsome Secrets of a Star-Crossed Child in the Final Days of the American Century" erstanden:
Here, for the first time, the godfather of Gonzo journalism takes on the subject no one else could handle: himself.
Im Vorwort beschreibt er seine erste Begegnung mit dem FBI als 9jähriger:
I was the prime suspect in the case of a Federal Mailbox being turned over in the path of a speeding bus: 5-year prison sentence. [...] I had done it, of course, and I had done it with plenty of help. [...] Every kid in the neighborhod agreed that this new swine of a school bus driver was a sadist who deserved to be punished. We saw it more as a dutiy than a prank. It was a brazen Insult to the honor of the whole neighborhood.
Hunter entscheidet sich dafür kein Geständnis abzulegen.
And I learned a powerful lesson: Never believe the first thing an FBI agent tells you about anything - especially not if he seems to believe you are guilty of a crime. Maybe he has no evidence. Maybe he´s bluffing. Maybe you are innocent. Maybe. The Law can be hazy on these things... But it is definitely worth a roll.
